An “edge ball” occurs when the ball touches the upper corners of the table, in which case the point is replayed.

Service
Each player/team has two attempts to serve and send the ball to the other side of the table.
Players/teams change service every four points.
The serve is made two meters behind the table and the ball must be sent above table level with at least one leg in contact with the ground.
The ball may not touch the net when serving.
Specific rules for singles
It is forbidden to touch the ball with the same part of the body twice in succession.
You must stay in your own half of the court and not go beyond the net (even laterally to the table).
Specific rules for doubles
A team has a maximum of 3 touches; however, team-mates must pass the ball at least once.
Players may pass into their opponents' half of the court (lateral to the table), but the ball must be sent to the opponents in their own half of the court.
The team receiving the serve can choose which of the team receives first, after the server has been designated.
